AUGUSTA, GA (CelebrityAccess) — SMG has awarded a management contract for the historic Miller Theater in Augusta, GA after it reopens late next year following an extensive rehabilitation.

The contract between Symphony Orchestra Augusta, SMG, and the Miller Theater board covers both the pre-opening and the next five years for the theater, which is anticipated to open in the fall of 2017.

“We are excited to bring to life the innovative vision that defines the Miller Theater through our operating partnership with SMG as we collectively seek to further enhance the quality and diversity of arts and entertainment programming for the many audiences within the Greater Augusta and Aiken community,” said Ora Parish, Jr., President of the Board of Symphony Orchestra Augusta.

“We are honored to have been selected by Symphony Orchestra Augusta to be stewards of this magnificent theater. We look forward to working with the Board, the Symphony staff and the community to bring the Miller back to life,” added Bob Papke, Vice President, Theaters for SMG.

Named for Augusta entertainment entrepreneur Frank J. Miller, who opened the venue in 1940, the 1,600 capacity theater remained a popular entertainment venue in the market until it closed in 1984. When it re-opens next year, the newly-renovated space will accommodate 1,300 guests, with offerings ranging from classical and pop music to jazz, film, dance and opera. As well, the accompanying Knox Music Institute will house music education opportunities and rehearsal space. – Staff Writers
